Mission Statement for #32 Freedom Ain't Free
At #32 Freedom Ain't Free, founded by exonerees Mark Craighead and Lamarr Monson, our mission is to rectify the injustices perpetrated by the legal system against the wrongfully incarcerated. We are dedicated to advocating for the rights of those who have been unjustly convicted, working tirelessly to reunite them with their families and restore their freedom. Through relentless advocacy, legal assistance, and support, we strive to bring justice to those who have been failed by the system and to create a future where no one is wrongfully imprisoned.

Who We Serve
At #32 Freedom Ain't Free, we are committed to serving individuals who have been wrongfully convicted and are in need of support to navigate the complexities of the legal system. Our clients come from the University of Michigan rejection list—individuals who have sought exoneration through the university's Innocence Clinic but have been denied assistance.

Statement on National and Michigan Exoneree Statistics
Since 1989, the National Registry of Exonerations has documented 3,659 exonerations in the United States as of February 2025, representing over 32,750 years of wrongful imprisonment. These cases highlight the systemic failures of the legal system, with contributing factors such as official misconduct, false confessions, and mistaken witness identifications. Alarmingly, Black individuals account for a disproportionate 47% of exonerations, despite comprising only 13% of the U.S. population.

In Michigan, the University of Michigan Law School has played a pivotal role in uncovering wrongful convictions. Michigan ranks among the states with the highest number of exonerations, with cases often involving official misconduct and inadequate legal defense.
